Coronel at an empty Crissy Field The executive order issued last week by California Gov. Gavin Newsom called for the state's nearly 40 million residents to stay home, with exceptions for essential service businesses and employees. The order did allow residents to exercise, including with their dogs, as long as they practiced social distancing by observing a 6-foot space buffer from others. You can also go to the vet or pet hospital if your pet is sick. This last weekend saw so many crowded beaches, hiking trails and parks across California that officials statewide have shutting many down. While DogTrekker continues to keep an up-to-date look at what is open and and what is not near you, we also urge you to do all you can to keep yourself, your family, your pets, and community healthy and safe. Meet Faraday, a Hospice Story from Lily’s Legacy

Meet Faraday. Rescued by two good samaritans from years wandering alone in the vineyards of central California, this lost soul with the gentle heart was taken to a local vet for treatment. The news was very sad. Faraday suffered from Dilated Cardio Myopathy and A-Fib. He was given six months to live. Knowing they couldn't support Faradays needs, his saviors reached out to Lily's Legacy Senior Dog Sanctuary in Petaluma CA.   Lily’s said yes and Faraday moved into a wonderful hospice home where he is being loved and cared for. Eight months later, he’s still enjoying life with his hospice mom, Toni and loving friend, Lena, and his canine buddy, Rusty.

Combat Your Dog’s Quarantine Boredom Blues

As we evolve into a new way of living, many dog owners are faced with finding ways to keep their four-legged friend(s) happy. Unable to run off-leash at beaches or dog parks due to ever evolving policies, or meet up with friends on walks, times are ruff for our furry friends who require social interaction.

San Franciscans Ignore Order – Picnic in Parks Easter Weekend

April 13, 2020 From Newsweek: "People around the city of San Francisco ignored stay-at-home measures in the state of California during Easter Weekend. Groups could be seen enjoying the sunshine in Washington Square, Golden Gate Park and Dolores Park—picnicking, strolling, dancing, and relaxing on the grass. San Francisco Supervisor Aaron Peskin was disheartened by the lack of regard for the stay-at-home measures in Washington Square this weekend. "The people of San Francisco have been unbelievable, but we should not rest on our laurels," he told KPIX 5." We at DogTrekker know it is not easy, but all of us need to continue these practices: observing a minimum social distancing of at least six feet when we do go out, not using parks as a place for social gatherings, and keeping dogs on leash as off-leash dogs can result in closer interaction between people. DogTrekker continues to keep the up-to-date status of all major park and open space districts in California, including San Francisco Recreation & Parks. Coronavirus Update April 1: Walking Dogs in California

Gov. Gavin Newsom has ordered everyone in California to stay home; with the exception of essential workers, to pick up groceries and prescriptions, and health care visits for you or your pet. Also exempted from that order is getting out into the fresh air with your entire family, including your pups. We all know how much dogs help us humans with stress in our daily lives. Walking or hiking with your dog at least once per day is not only good for you and your canine's mental health, it is very important for everyone's physical health. Officials of park and open space districts around the state understand this and are doing everything they can to keep as many trails open as possible (up to date list below).
