Adopt a Senior Pet Day in San Francisco

Get your tails to San Francisco - June 6 has officially been proclaimed “Adopt a Senior Pet Day.” Muttville Senior Dog Rescue is the inspiration for this holiday; founded in 2007, Muttville advocates for senior and special need dogs to help find their forever homes. Muttville has grown substantially and rescues about 1,100 senior dogs a year.   Seventy senior dogs will be up for adoption. Get there between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. on June 6 or 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on June 8 and receive the early bird special, with discounted adoption fees.

Whiskeytown Lake to Open Memorial Day

One of DogTrekker’s favorite places to hike is Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, just west of Redding, the hiking capital of California. We’ve long written about Whiskeytown Lake and the 70 miles of dog-friendly trails leading up to four beautiful waterfalls.   As San Francisco Chronicle outdoors columnist Tom Stienstra wrote last week, “the national park that was devoured in an inferno last summer is reopening step-by-step this spring and will be back on the map for Memorial Day weekend.
