Scott Wiener and canine constituent San Francisco Supervisor Scott Wiener just introduced legislation to repeal what he terms antiquated provisions in the city's Police Code. Among the laws he thinks have outlived their usefulness: the one that currently prohibits anyone from tying a dog to a street tree or a street light. "It's important to continually reevaluate our existing laws to see whether they still make sense," said Wiener in a Facebook post.

Doggie swim weekend returns to Spring Lake Regional Park in Santa Rosa on May 12 & 13, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The swimming lagoon will be open as a leash-free dog park. All well-behaved dogs welcome. Dogs must have current rabies inoculation or valid dog license. $3 per dog per day for Parks members, $5 for non-members. Proceeds go to the Regional Parks Foundation to support the parks. Parking $7 or free for members. Swimming for dogs only.

The SPCA believes that a majority of puppies purchased online and shippped to their new owners are raised in similar conditions.  In a recent survey, 18 percent of respondents said they got  their pet online, while  38 percent had their puppy shipped to them. The SPCA estimates that 30 percent of puppies up for adoption originated in puppy mills.
