Once, handsome Gunner had his own happy home and loving family. Then came the Napa earthquake, and he lost both. In foster care, this happy pit mix, now 5, has shown himself to be a real people-loving sweetie, who loves to play and wants to be by your side. Snuggles? Belly rubs? Look no further. Seeking a hiking partner? Gunner's your guy. Smart, healthy, energetic—and, yeah, good-looking—he's a perfect companion for DogTrekking and whatever other fun you might have planned. His house manners are excellent, and he prefers to be an only dog.
Gunner's just one of the fine dogs waiting to meet you at Jameson Animal Rescue Ranch, a no-kill rescue and sanctuary for companion and farmed animals in the Napa Valley. Besides providing transitional and permanent shelter, rescue and adoption services for critters in a fix, JARR is dedicated to keeping beloved pets and their people together by providing much-needed resources.
JARR's Emergency Fund provides emergency medical attention and care, spay/neuter, animal training, temporary boarding, food, grooming, supplies, and landlord-required pet deposits to people who otherwise would not be able to afford these services. When age or disability makes it harder for someone to deal with their animal companion's daily needs, volunteers with JARR's Pet Wellness Program step up to administer flea, tick, and heartworm meds, clean the back yard, and more. The Forever Foster program matches senior clients of the Meals on Wheels program with lifelong animal companions—the person provides the love, JARR covers the costs. Pets whose age or medical issues might keep them from getting homes also benefit as the Special Needs Animal Program (SNAP), which covers the cost of medication and vet care, allowing loving families to take them in without worrying about the expense.
JARR has big plans, backed by strong community support—as seen recently at this year's WineaPAWlooza wine auction, which raised $1.75 million for the animals. Now in the planning stages: JARR's Napa Valley sanctuary, designed by renowned architect Howard Backen. Open to the public; the facility will let visitors interact with and adopt companion and farmed animals, as well as attend educational events, animal and training classes. Even enjoy a glass of wine!
