We all agree 2020 was a very tough year for travel, but there were a few bright spots. After working with many local health and other park jurisdictions in the South Lake Tahoe area, Wild Blue Dogs was given the go-ahead for their Fall 2020 camp. Actually, the camp turned out to be the only operational Dog Camp in the USA. Utilizing the most advanced cleaning techniques and social distancing protocols, the camp did not have a single reported illness.
If you like spending time outdoors with your four-legged companions and wouldn’t think of taking off for the wild blue yonder without them, consider treating your squad to an all-inclusive, activity-packed week in the company of other dog-lovers and their pets. Wild Blue Dogs, a nonprofit organization raising awareness and funding for canine cancer treatment, will be hosting both a Summer Camp and Fall Camp for 2021, on Lake Tahoe’s southeast shore. A good time, along with do-good vibes, is guaranteed for all.
Gather Your Gear, It's Dog Camp Time!
Both camps will be held on a fenced, 33-acre property between Edgewood Golf Course and Zephyr Cove on the Nevada side of the lake (the facility serves in mid-summer as a 4-H camp), the Wild Blue Dog Camps—one May 31-June 6 and another Sept. 6-12—offer a full agenda of fun, training and camaraderie in disciplines ranging from agility and lure-coursing to nose work and dog photography.
The interactive camp sessions are all-inclusive, with lodging either in cabins at the 4H site (BYO sleeping bag and toiletries, and be assigned a roommate) or down the road in South Lake Tahoe at the Tahoe Beach Retreat and Lodge, a dog-passionate property about a 10-minute drive from the dog-camp venue. A third option: make your own offsite arrangements and come to the venue just for the day.
Register Early and Save
Several price points for Wild Blue camps are offered, depending on lodging choice. An early-bird special for those who make an initial deposit for the Summer Camp before March 15, 2021 takes $150 off the registration price. For the Fall Camp, the deadline is April 30, 2021. Refer a friend (or friends) and get a $100 bonus for each one.
Wild Blue Dogs is About Saving Lives
Wild Blue Dog operates the only not-for-profit dog camp in the country, a factoid that adds to the give-back vibe. According to its research, one in three dogs will get cancer, 6 million will be diagnosed in 2021 and most will die within a year. The organization’s need-based treatment program offers grants to people lacking the resources to pay for their pet’s cancer treatment. Your attendance at camp helps Wild Blue continue its great work.
