Three year old Major is the White House's first shelter dog! He is a rags-to-riches story that showcases the potential of shelter dogs when they're given a chance through adoption. Major joins Champ, a 12-year-old German Shepherd, making it the first time since the administration of John Kennedy that both first dogs were German Shepherds.
The Bidens first fostered Major, who was at the Delaware Humane Association, in late 2018, and it was love at first tug. Three days before the inauguration of President Joe Biden, the DHA held an "indoguration" for Major. More than 7,400 people attended via Zoom and it featured a performance by Josh Groban. The event raised $200,000 in donations for the association.
