Actually, Dogtrekker.com is a year old today (7 dog-years according to a popular wives’ tail). We officially launched our beta site on April Fools Day, 2011, to the applause of 11 DogTrekker contributors and their 14 dogs; and thanks to all of you, have grown at an incredible rate ever since.
In our first year, we have met hundreds, if not thousands, of dog-passionate DogTrekkers and your pups at the many events we attended. We have been able to share with you over 50 stories about the incredible work that the dedicated founders and volunteers of Northern California rescue organizations perform selflessly each and every day. We also appreciate the support of our DogTrekker Rescue Donation program, which allows us to donate to your favorite rescue and spread the word about DogTrekker at the same time.
In our free weekly newsletter (sign up here if you haven’t already and you could win a DogCation), our veteran dog-travel writers and editors have shared hundreds of stories about dog-friendly destinations, lodging, chow, hikes, splash zones, activities, attractions and all-around fun for dogs and us humans who follow.
Our research and editorial staff have posted over 2,500 vetted and double-verified dog-friendly travel and local listings to make your in-town and out-of-town trips with your 4-legged friend safe, fun and engaging.
Of course we would be remiss if we didn’t mention our dog-passionate destination partners, who are working closely with DogTrekker.com on ensuring that their locations meet the high DogTrekker dog-friendly standards. These include Mendocino County; the Gold Country destinations of the city of Folsom, Nevada County, Amador County, Calaveras County, El Dorado County and Sierra County; the city of Redding and the Shasta Cascade region; Sonoma County; and Humboldt County and the Redwood Coast.
Again, thanks from all of us for your terrific support, constant input, and for spreading the word to your family, friends and colleagues. We have some great adventures in store for all you in the coming year and look forward to you DogTrekking with us.
The DogTrekker staff.
