Indian Summer @ Nick’s Cove

Nick's Cove deck

Nick’s Cove Restaurant, Oyster Bar & Cottages has always been dog-friendly. Kayla, DogTrekker.com’s “research Lab,”  has given Nick’s her Paw of Approval on many visits. Earlier this year, Nick’s moved into the “dog-passionate” category by adding a waterfront patio and oyster bar where as many as 30 people can enjoy cocktails and oysters with their four-legged friends.

Adjoining the patio at dog-friendly Nick’s Cove Beach, bonfires are lit every night, weather permitting, so guests and their pups can enjoy the sunset before retiring to their pet-friendly cottages. Note that in October, lodging rates are discounted 20 percent on Wednesdays for guests who dine at the restaurant.

In November, Nick’s Cove brings back its very popular Pampered Pooch Package, intended to make every dog feel like a VIP (Very Important Pooch)! The deal includes barbecued oysters for humans; house-made biscuits for dogs; water, food bowls and towels in guest room; and continental breakfast and dog snacks delivered to the room. Packages begin at $191.25 per night (plus tax) for a mid-week stay.

Two family events (dogs included) are on the calendar later in the year. The second annual Crab Catch celebrating the opening of Dungeness crab season takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov, 5, while on Dec. 8, Santa arrives by trusty water sleigh and welcomes families – and dogs – in the boat shack. Check these out here:

The 2nd Annual Crab Catch on November 10th is taking place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and there will be various crab-centric activities available for crustacean-lovers of all ages. There will be a Tomales Bay crab-catching competition free and open to the public, a cooking demo with Executive Chef Austin Perkins; a crab-infused cocktail “Crabby Hour;” and special Dungeness crab-centric menu items available all day. A portion of the proceeds from the cooking demo and lunch benefiting the Petaluma Educational Foundation, and those interested in attending may purchase tickets at http://crabcatch2013.eventbrite.com/

Then on Sunday, December 8th, Santa will be arriving at Nick's Cove by way of his trusty water sleigh (i.e. boat). This will be the third annual visit by Santa at Nick's Cove, where he sets up shop in the boat house with hot cider, treats and a photographer so children and adults alike can pose for a photo with Santa overlooking Tomales Bay. Every guest who brings a donation of canned food for the Marin Food Bank will receive 15% off any food or beverage purchase at Nick's Cove throughout the day. In addition, Nick's Cove will also donate 10% of all net proceeds of the day's sales to the Marin Food Bank.

Santa will be arriving at Nick's Cove at 3 p.m. and will be available in the boat shack until 5 p.m.. The restaurant hours that day will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and cocktails are available for purchase inside the restaurant, which folks can then bring out to the boat shack. Also, dogs are more than welcome to visit Santa out in the boat shack with their owners!
