Considering a trip to the Yosemite Region in the fall? It’s a glorious time to visit not only the national park, but the surrounding national forests and Gold Rush-era towns in the adjacent counties. This season, DogTrekking visitors have two new pet-friendly options in the “cabins and cottages” category. First up: new, pet-friendly “Explorer Cabins” at Yosemite’s only four-diamond resort, Tenaya Lodge.
Tenaya has introduced 50 of the two-bedroom cabins, all of them dog-friendly. Some are outfitted with kids-in-mind bunkbeds in the second bedroom and grouped for family gatherings, while others offer more seclusion and privacy. Guests have full access to resort amenities including the Explorer Clubhouse (sorry, no dogs inside), a hub of activity with grab-and-go breakfasts, evening wine and special events. Communal fire pits are scattered among the cabin clusters and invite guests (with leashed dogs) to gather for warmth, camaraderie and s’mores.
Also new in the Yosemite area: AutoCamp in Midpines, Mariposa County, the third AutoCamp property (others are in Santa Barbara and Guerneville) showcasing lodging in custom Airstream trailers, modern cabins and safari-style “glamping” tents, all with private patios, fire pits and grills. Dog-friendly Airstreams and cabins are limited (tents are not dog-friendly). DogTrekkers must have advance approval, so call ahead to discuss and reserve. Midpines is close to Mariposa, a Yosemite National Park gateway with much to explore as a destination unto itself.
