Bay Area Pet Fair 1st Day Success

According to the Bay Area Pet Fair & Adoptathon organizers from Pet Food Express, the first day of the two-day event was a tremendous success. More than 190 pets were adopted from approximately 50 animal welfare, rescue, humane and SPCA organizations.

The DogTrekker staff, comprised of Research Lab Kayla, mastiff/lab rescue Layah and 8-month old mastiff 'Tiny' — and of course their uprights, were on hand for the festivities and a somber, yet inspirational, tribute to the dogs and their handlers who responded to the events at the twin towers on 9/11/01. Fair organizers said that 9/11 was the largest deployment of search dogs in the United States history. At the fair was Jessie, a 14-year old retired search dog, who worked hurricanes Gustav, Katrina and Ike, in addition to 9/11.

The Bay Area Pet Fair & Adoptathon continues at the Marin Center tomorrow from 10am-5pm. More rescue animals will be available for adoption, and the music, dog shows, agility, K-9 CHP demonstrations and more will take place. See the full schedule here.
