Traveling to Lake Tahoe with your dog? Keep an eye out for coyotes on the trails.
Coyotes are beautiful animals, but should be treated with a healthy respect and common sense.
Several DogTrekker readers have recently alerted us to a series of coyote attacks on Tahoe area trails. This includes the well-documented death of a whippet who reportedly chased coyotes near the Tahoe Rim Trail above Lake Tahoe's south shore, and was killed and eaten. Wildlife experts say coyotes in the Lake Tahoe area tend to move in numbers, and are territorial, so such attacks are not unheard of.
