#GivingTuesdayNow and Supporting Rescues During the Pandemic

Each year, #GivingTuesday is recognized on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It’s a day where people and communities come together to do some extra good during the season of giving.

As the coronavirus pandemic continues, people are looking for more and more ways to help their communities where help is most needed. Since the spirit of #GivingTuesday simply can’t come soon enough, the #GivingTuesdayNow campaign has been launched!

This Tuesday, May 5th, join communities across the globe in recognizing generosity by giving to your favorite charity (or charities!). Look out for matching donations that will help boost your contributions and help you increase your impact, no matter the amount of your donation. DogTrekker supports several rescues across California, and if you're feeling generous but not sure where to start check out a list of rescues in California here.

FACE Foundation recently shared this story of how charitable funds they received helped a California family during this pandemic.

After being adopted from a local shelter as a puppy, Rocky has been an integral part of his loving family for over 13 years! Rocky’s family has had some ups and downs financially. After a cycling hit and run accident in 2016, the family was left with a large medical bill and damaged credit. They had been working on getting their finances in order when the COVID-19 health crisis hit. With layoffs due to the pandemic, Rocky’s family was not prepared to pay for yet another unexpected medical bill; unfortunately, that is when Rocky had a health emergency.

After Rocky started dragging his legs behind him, his family rushed him to the veterinarian. The doctors at Veterinary Specialty Hospital diagnosed him with IVDD, a degenerative illness that damages a pet’s spinal cord. If not treated immediately with surgery, Rocky risked becoming permanently paralyzed. With no other options to pay for his care, Rocky’s family reached out to FACE for help. Thanks to our generous supporters, Rocky had the surgery and is now recovering at home with his family!

Pets like Rocky and his family need support now more than ever. #GivingTuesdayNow will play a pivotal role in helping fellow animal lovers who may be struggling during this difficult time. As the unemployment rate rises, more and more families will find themselves faced with similar predicaments. The #GivingTuesday and #GivingTuesdayNow movements celebrate generosity on a global scale and are reminders to give where we can, when we can – because if there’s one thing we have learned during this pandemic, it’s that we are stronger when we come together, even if we have to do it 6 feet apart.
