Kayla, DogTrekker’s Research Lab, took her first DogTrek of the year on New Year’s Day, hiking with buddy Kiya along the actual Emigrant Trail. After following the Old Reno Road (just outside of Truckee) for a few miles, the two pups and their uprights appropriately turned onto Dog Valley Road for their hour and a half jaunt.
Heading down the same trail that the George and Tamsen Donner party and many other westbound pioneers traveled between 1845 and 1869, Kayla and Kiya ran, played, traded sticks and generally had a great time in 60 degree weather. With little snow to be seen, the normally muddy roads and trails were dry and easy to navigate. If only that had been the case in the winter of 1846/1847. Truckee and the surrounding areas are great this time of year, snow or no snow, and Kayla and Kiya certainly made the most of it.
All of us at DogTrekker wish you and yours the very best DogTrekking in 2012.
