Time to celebrate!
The results are in and more than 15,000 dogs and cats found homes over the weekend at the Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days event held throughout the country. This is the largest and most successful two-day free adoption event in U.S. history! With 8,432 animals being adopted at last year’s event, everyone, including Maddie's Fund, is blown away by these results. Some groups adopted out every single animal they had. By the end of the weekend, kennels were empty, shelters were quiet and thousands of animals were with their new families.
Here in the Bay Area, 4,464 dogs and cats were adopted; although that number is expected to rise a little as more data is collected in the coming days.
Not only does this mean that over 15,000 pets are right now nestled nicely in loving homes, it also means that there are over 15,000 spaces open to bring in scores of homeless, neglected and abused animals to safe shelters and rescue organizations where they can receive the care and attention they deserve.
Inspired by one family’s love for a Miniature Schnauzer, Maddie’s® Pet Adoption Days has found homes for more than 30,000 homeless dogs and cats since 2010. For each pet adopted, Maddie’s Fund gives participating shelters from $500 to $2,000 to cover the true costs of those adoptions. This funding enables the shelters and rescue groups to save and treat more animals throughout the year.
We’d like to give a special shout out to the DogTrekkers who opened their hearts and their homes to a new family member this weekend. DogTrekker salutes you and is looking forward to traveling with you for many years to come.
