Sometimes a dog really needs a hero. Or a whole bunch of them. That's what happened to Jandi, a little German shepherd puppy found by the railroad tracks in the Sacramento area. A Good Samaritan found her and brought her to the shelter, where it soon became clear that she had multiple fractures to her legs and pelvis, not to mention deep gashes and several embedded shotgun pellets. She'd obviously been wandering around in this state untreated for some time, and in the process picked up some nasty parasite infestations.
Luckily for Jandi–now 6 months old–she came to the attention of ShepHeroes, a volunteer-based organization dedicated to finding German shepherds in dire straits, getting them the help they need, and finding them a supportive, breed-experienced home where they can be part of the family forever. After undergoing surgery to repair her injuries, she proved an excellent patient with a sweet, loving nature. While her vets initially feared nerve damage in her broken legs, she's healed up beautifully and can't wait for her crate rest to be over so she can play, play, play. And she has a family waiting in the wings to help her finally get the life she should have had from the beginning.
As a volunteer-based organization, ShepHeroes is always looking for more kind folks so they can help more dogs like Jandi and give them a safe haven. Fosters, especially those with GSD experience, are very welcome, so if you're in the greater Sacramento or Bay Area and can help out, get in touch! Who knows what cute puppy will be very, very grateful…
