Mass Evacuation of South Lake Tahoe – Wild Blue Dog Camp Canceled

The Caldor Fire has crossed two major highways and swept down into the Lake Tahoe Basin. The fire forced a mandatory evacuation of South Lake Tahoe on Monday and the normally busy mountain destination is basically shut down. Our friends at the upcoming Wild Blue Dog Camp have announced that the week-long event has been canceled. Originally scheduled for September 6-12, it is unknown at this time if the event will be rescheduled later in the fall or simply not held this year. All proceeds from Wild Blue Dog Camp go directly to cancer research and treating canine cancer. If you would like to find out more or donate to this great organization, please click here. We wish all of our two and four-legged friends and family who continue to be impacted by these devastating fires up and down the state our very best. Stay safe!

Borrow a Buddy at the Beachcomber Properties, Fort Bragg

The "Borrow a Buddy" program is a great partnership between the Beachcomber Motel, Surf & Sand Lodge and the Beach House Inn, all in Fort Bragg, and the Mendocino Coast Humane Society. If guests don't have a dog, or can't travel with their own, this program encourages them to spread the love to our local pound puppies.  The “Borrow a Buddy” program enables guests of these dog-passsionate Fort Bragg lodging properties to borrow an adoptable dog and take him/her on a fun local outing, away from the adoption center here in Fort Bragg. Give a deserving pup some love and exercise by taking them to a dog-friendly winery, restaurant, state park, or beach!

Concord Taco Trail Challenge – FINAL WEEK!

The Concord Taco Trail is a directory of nearly 40 authentic, locally owned restaurants and taquerias, and it’s all you need to explore some the city’s best hidden culinary gems. Most of the taquerias and restaurants offer cuisine made from authentic family recipes specific to different regions in Mexico. The taco fan with the most check-ins at the end of the promotion will be crowned the new Taco Trail Champion and awarded the official Taco Trophy.

Saving Senior Dogs Week 2021

At DogTrekker, we’re guided by one simple mission: Leave no dog behind. By supporting California animal welfare organizations – including Lily’s Legacy Senior Dog Sanctuary in Petaluma, which finds homes for large-breed senior dogs, and San Francisco’s Muttville, serving senior and special needs dogs – we’re building a better world for all four-legged friends.   That’s why we’re thrilled to launch a new DogTrekker Challenge benefitting Saving Senior Dogs Week. This dog-gone good campaign raises awareness and funds for senior dog rescues nationwide, including seven groups here in California. DogTrekker will donate $1,000 during this year’s Saving Senior Dogs Week, October 25-31. Please join us and help organizers reach their $50,000 goal! DONATE NOW!

Happy Thanksgiving 2021!

Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude. This year, our dog and human families here at DogTrekker are thankful to have such a supportive, thoughtful, and responsive group of pup parents engaged with our California dog-travel stories and insight. We’re also thankful for the selfless support that DogTrekkers show dogs in the shelters we promote, either by providing new forever homes or by donating much-needed funds. Thank you for your generosity and have a wonderful holiday season. By the way, scroll down to check out the fall/winter lodging specials from our Mendocino County partners!
